Life is unfair so they say. It is
true, only because people can be unfair. Life can be fair if people are fair. If we
can only be a little bit more understanding, compassionate and loving, I think
life can be fairer.
Lord, grant us the grace to be more
understanding, compassionate and loving so that others can say, “life is fair”.
Amen.
I found a song
“Pilgrims Theme (Greater Scheme of Things) by the Jesuits Fathers Johnny Go and
Manoling Francisco years before and even now it still speaks so much truth on
life. Let the following lyrics speaks to you:
Tired of weaving dreams too loose for me to wear Tired of watching clouds repeat their dance on
air Tired of getting tied to doing what's required Is life a mere routine in the greater scheme of
things?
Through with taking roads someone else designed Through with chasing stars that soon forget to
shine Through with going through one more day - what's
new? Does my life still mean a thing in the greater
scheme of things?
REFRAIN 1: I think I'll follow the voice that calls within Dance to the silent song it sings I hope to find my place So my life can fall in place I know in time I'll find my place In the greater scheme of things
Each must go his way, but how can I decide? Which path I should take, who will be my guide? I need some kind of star to lead me somewhere
far To find a higher dream in the greater scheme of
things
The road before me bends, I don't know what I'll
find Will I meet a friend or ghosts I left behind? Should I even be surprised that You're with me
in disguise? For it's Your hand I have seen in the greater
scheme of things (REFRAIN 1)
BRIDGE: For Yours is the voice in my deepest dreams You are the heart, the very heart Of the greater scheme of things (REFRAIN 1)
REFRAIN 2: Why don't we follow the voice that calls within Dance to the silent song it sings One day we'll find our place For all things fall in place For all things have a place In the greater scheme of things
There are times in life when we
don’t know where we are going, dark nights more frequent and cloudy skies more
present. However, history is telling us, that we do still find good in life, enough
reason to smile and far more reason to hope. All we need is to listen to the
voice within.
Lord, grant us the grace of a
listening heart, so we can hear the voice within and dance to the silent song
it sings. Amen.
No matter how bad a person may
seem, there is always something good in him. You can never discount goodness in
a bad persons heart. It is in there lying dormant, waiting to be awaken by
someone who is good enough to break the bad spell.
Blessed Mother
Teresa of Calcutta said, “Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the
most terrible poverty.”
This is the kind
of poverty creeping in the society that is fast becoming so connected
electronically, yet fast becoming so disconnected in real human interaction. We
hide in the comfort of virtual relationship because it gives us a wall from
being hurt, only to find out later on the limited capacity of virtual reality
because it cannot compensate real relationship. A person cannot exist being
alone; he has to interact if he wants to keep his sanity. We live because we
relate with one another and we ceased to exist if we stop. We don’t have to
look that far, all we need to do is look at the untamed social media and the
effects it has in us.
The increasing
news of suicides, shootings and psychological disorders are but symptoms of a
society that has failed to value relationship. The accumulation of material
wealth has its limitation; it cannot buy happiness. What we need is to practice
again going out, talking and relating with real people, in real time and in
real environment. Yes, we can get hurt but we can have love too. We have to
reach out to those who are alone and unwanted. This is the only way to heal all
the uncried tears and unseen wounds.
Lord, wake us up
to the value of having real relationship. Amen.
We had this joyful exchange of
comments in facebook about love and one made comment that I am like saying, “already
been there, already done that.” To which I replied, “Never been there, never
done that.”
Well it is not necessary to be
there and to have done something to know what love is. Experience helps,
however even without it, love is love and no amount of experience can make us
expert about it. When we love, we know.
God is so good that from heaven He
came down to earth to make us realize that He can make the journey from heaven to
calvary, if that’s the only way for us to feel loved and cared for. In the same
manner that in His goodness He speaks to us in the language we can understand so
that we will fully know the extent of His desire to embrace us. If we are a drunkard,
He will speak in the language of a drunkard in order to save the drunkard.
The 1st reading today from 1 Samuel 8:4-7,10-22 tells the
story of how the Israelites were asking Samuel to give them a King to rule over
them. They want to be like any other nations who have a central figure
especially in times of war. Samuel pointed to them what the King can do for
them and they insisted still to have one. Samuel was hesitant because for them
there was no other King but God, but God himself said to grant what they asked
for.
Who is the ruler of our life? Is it ourselves? Is it our wants and
desires? Is it our feelings and emotions? If Christ, who is the source of all
that is good, is the ruler of our life then no wants and desires can surpass
what we can receive and no feelings and emotions can surpass what joy and fulfillment
we can experience.
Men and women of prayer are
inspiring. There beauty glows from within. They emit certain aura of goodness,
beauty and truth. We smell in them the sweetness of unexplainable grace. It
makes us aspire for greater things. We cannot help but sigh with thanksgiving
for such a sight.
Only in prayer can men and women be
truly grounded and in due time be courageous to fulfill Gods plan.
Can there be more inspiring than
seeing someone pray? A man and a woman of prayer truly inspire.
We can do all the
good things we want to do, we can judge some things to be good or not, we may even
define someone as godly or not, yet at the end of it all Saint Paul in his
letter to the Galatians said, “The only thing that counts is faith expressing
itself through love.” Gal 5:6
Our faith should
not just be intellect, it should be intellect expressed in love.
