Intention Matters

Intention counts in personal life much more in mission were lives are at stake. What is your intention towards others? What is your intention in serving? Intention makes the difference; it affects how you relate with others and affects what kind of service you will give.

The Bus Stop

One morning while on the way to the office, I noticed the bus stop was empty and I took a photo of it. I said to myself, commuters wait for the bus believing that the bus will pass by. If it’s delayed, they can always contact the transit and ask for information.

I thought to myself, life is like a bus stop; it is a constant waiting. When we are young we wait to grow and when we are teenagers we wait to become adults and find a place in the world.  When we get sick we wait to get well, or when someone is away we wait for there return. Life is waiting and to wait is to believe, believing that somehow our dreams and desires will pass by. If it’s delayed we can always phone God by praying.

Without Letting Go

I was listening to one priest who was reflecting on the Ascension of Jesus. We wonder somehow why Jesus would have to leave and yet the gospel still needs to be proclaimed. For sure the message can be well proclaimed with Him at the forefront, however He chooses not to. He wants us to be at the forefront while He takes the background. He trusted us the kingdom. That’s an awesome task! But I think more than trusting us the kingdom; it was more of a long-term plan of His. See, with Him physically with us all the time, we will not grow, we will only depend on Him. (Of course we still depend on everything in Him, but in a different context) However with Him gone, we learn to be independent in one way or another. We mature in this way, we learn the ins and outs of life and our love relationship with Him takes a new meaning.

It is in letting go that we can grow. Without letting go there is no maturity.

Word Speaks

Words speak so much about a person’s character. Matthew 15:18 say, every word that comes from the mouth comes from the heart. We can actually get a glimpse of the kind of person by the way he speaks. He can hide for sometime but when undesirable situation arises the real thing comes out.

To Wish or Pray

To pray is to trust that someone up there hears. It’s like wishing, only that in prayer there is that certainty that someone is actually listening. To wish is to utter a want or need while to pray is utter the same and go beyond.

The Secret to Happiness

People by default always think that missionaries are happy people, and yes they are true, missionaries are indeed happy people. However, happiness for missionaries does not mean without desolation, pain or hurt. It is in fact filled with it. I remember countless times people telling me, “There is so much joy in you.” But actually they don’t know the desolation deep inside of me. My realization in mission is that if we are to be joyful, all we need is to be contented and be happy with the joys of others, so that even if we are not feeling good inside we can still be happy because our consolation is that at least others are happy.

Missionaries can still find enough reason to be happy. The secret (open secret), I think, is that missionaries can still be happy because they focus on others joy and for them that is enough reason to be happy.

Grant us the grace, O Lord, to feel the joy of others so when confronted with our own desolation, we can still find consolation in their joy. Amen.
