On Lying

Today starts the Holy Triduum with the Mass of the Lords Supper. It was one of the darkest of nights for Jesus, not just because of the torment of dying on the cross but worst of all because at his lowest the people closest to him did not just abandoned him but betrayed and denied him. Can there be worst than being betrayed and denied at your lowest by someone you love?  Judas betrayed him, Peter denied him. He lied that he was his friend.

Lying implies lack of love. You don’t lie if you love, love is of truth. Lying also indicates lack of respect because in lying the person makes a fool out of someone.

A relationship founded on lies cannot last. There can be no real relationships in lies.

Teach us Lord by your grace to stand our ground and speak the truth. Amen.
